Plymouth Personal Trainer Shares Her Unexpected Weight Loss Tip
People seek out Kris Shanahan for her custom designed fitness programs that have helped hundreds of people lose weight, get leaner and get stronger. With over thirty years of experience, she certainly knows what works and what doesn’t work.
When I asked Kris for her best advice to get into swimsuit-ready shape, she said to “stop focusing on your body”. What? This seems like strange advice coming from one of Massachusetts’ hottest personal trainers. So, I asked her to explain…
Kris responded: “With my clients, I help them to focus on what their body can do, rather than on how it looks”. “We work together to improve performance during workouts and focus on learning to make better food choices throughout the day”. Kris motivates her clients with simple, specific goals such as lifting five more pounds than last week, or ordering the grilled chicken salad at lunch instead of a burger and fries, etc.
“I find that turning our attention to making small measurable performance improvements has an added benefit over time: That is, our physical appearance improves as well”, Kris confirms. “Say what you want, but the horrible truth is that we live in an appearance-obsessed culture. Our society places such a high value on our physical appearance. As a result, many of us have developed body image issues that destroy our self confidence”.
“To develop self confidence, we need to develop inner strength.
I have never met a truly strong person who didn’t have self confidence”
“Each of us needs self confidence to reach our full potential. To develop self confidence, we need to develop inner strength. I have never met a truly strong person who didn’t have self confidence”. Kris continues: “I love helping my clients unlock their beauty through finding their strength and self confidence”. “We all have strength in us, but sometimes we need the polish of few small personal victories to really make it shine…”
